                                                                                          STORM SHELTER REGISTRATION

We need to get the storm shelters / safe rooms registered before the spring tornado season starts.  If you haven't registered your Clay County shelter or know somebody that has not registered their shelter do it now.

It is time to register you storm shelter / safe room. We maintain a data base of storm shelters in Clay County. The data base is used by  the Emergency Command Center and emergency personnel to search for shelters / safe rooms after a storm and search for survivors that may be trapped in shelters under debris.

We will need the following information:

Your name.
Your 911 address.
Your home phone number and your cell number.
Your local Fire Department District (who's your fire dept.).
Location of the shelter / safe room  Whether it is a safe room inside the house and how it is entered or a below ground cellar, give directions on how to get to it (example- enter inside the house by the kitchen door or behind the house 50 ft to the south ).

This information will not be made public and is used by emergency personnel during search/rescue. Please return the info to ARES Emergency Coordinator Larry Duncan at 940-781-2544 or at ka5wlr@sbcglobal.net   or  Kent Neville Clay County Emergency Management Coordinator 940-538-4052 / 940-636-5123 or at cemergencymgmt@claycountytx.com

People do not realize that if you are in your safe room or storm cellar and a tornado destroys your house and piles tons of debris on top of your shelter, you can't get out until emergency personnel dig you out. If we don't know to look for a shelter or a safe room on your property we will move on to the next house.  You could be in there for days. Normally phones and cell phones will not work after a disaster so you can not call for help.

Please pass this on to everybody on you E-mail list that lives in Clay County or has a summer
home or rent house with a shelter in Clay County.
